Acorn TCG vs Eyevo vs MonPrice: Price & Platform Comparison (2026)

By Julian

If you’re comparing Pokemon card scanner apps, the thing nobody publishes is what they actually cost — because pricing is buried behind an install, a paywall, and often an A/B test.

So I looked it up properly. On 9 August 2026 I pulled the live in-app purchase prices for these apps from Apple’s storefront catalogue across 71 countries, and from Google Play across 78. This page is that data, plus what I can and can’t honestly tell you about each app.

Disclosure, up front: I build Eyevo. That’s exactly why this page sticks to things you can verify yourself — prices, platforms, store ratings — and why I’ve flagged clearly where I have not tested a competitor’s product.

The short version

EyevoAcorn TCGMonPrice
iOSyesyesyes
Androidyesnoyes
Entry price (US)$4.49$7.99/week$5.99
Top price (US)$69.99$99.99 lifetime$79.99
Entry price (DE)€4.79€8.99/week€5.99
Store rating4.7★4.8★4.6★

Two things stand out, and they’re both verifiable in about a minute.

1. Acorn has no Android app

Search Google Play for Acorn TCG and you get an investing app called Acorns and a children’s learning app. Acorn is iOS-only.

If you’re on Android, Acorn isn’t an option at all — the comparison is between Eyevo and MonPrice. This is worth stating plainly because a lot of “best scanner app” lists include Acorn without mentioning it, which is useless if you own a Pixel or a Samsung.

2. Acorn runs a price ladder, not a price

This surprised me. Acorn has 19 distinct in-app purchase products live at once — 7 weekly variants, 7 annual, and 5 lifetime — which is a systematic price test rather than a fixed price list.

Observed in the US store on 9 August 2026:

TierAcorn (US)Acorn (Germany)
Weekly$7.99 (one variant at $9.99)€8.99 (one variant at €9.99)
Annual$34.99 – $39.99€39.99 – €69.99
Lifetime$99.99€79.99 – €99.99

Note the German annual range: €39.99 to €69.99 for the same tier, at the same time. Which price you see depends on which variant you’re assigned. If you’re comparing, check what your own device shows rather than trusting any list — including this one.

Also worth knowing: Acorn prices Germany roughly 30% above the US in dollar terms (€8.99 ≈ $10.37 vs $7.99). Across all 71 storefronts the median Acorn weekly works out to about $9.05, which puts the US at the cheap end of their ladder and Western Europe and the Nordics at the expensive end.

3. What the three cost, side by side

Google Play publishes an in-app purchase range, so this is like-for-like on Android:

CountryEyevoMonPriceDifference
United States$4.49 – $69.99$5.99 – $79.99Eyevo −25% entry
Germany€4.79 – €69.99€5.99 – €79.99Eyevo −20% entry
United Kingdom£4.19 – £62.99£5.99 – £69.99Eyevo −30% entry
Canada$5.99 – $90.99$7.99 – $99.99Eyevo −25% entry
SwitzerlandCHF 3.60 – 55.00CHF 4.90 – 69.99Eyevo −27% entry
Australia$6.49 – $99.99$7.99 – $99.99Eyevo −19% entry

Eyevo’s entry price is below MonPrice’s in every market I checked, and roughly 44% below Acorn’s iOS weekly.

I’d rather you take the right conclusion from that than an inflated one: price is a reason to try an app, not a reason to keep it. If a more expensive app identifies your cards more reliably, it’s the better buy. Which brings me to the honest limitation of this page.

What I have NOT tested

I benchmarked scanning speed and accuracy for the apps in my main scanner comparison — TCGPlayer, Collectr, Ludex and Eyevo — with a stopwatch and the same 20-card stack.

I have not run that benchmark on Acorn or MonPrice. So I’m not going to tell you their scanning is slower or less accurate than Eyevo’s, because I don’t have the data and I’m not going to invent it.

What I can tell you factually:

  • Acorn is well reviewed. 4.8★ from over 13,000 US ratings is a strong signal, and more ratings than Eyevo has. Their users are clearly happy.
  • MonPrice has scale on Android. Around 1.7 million Play downloads and 4.6★ from ~39,000 ratings.
  • Both are real, actively maintained products, not shovelware.

So which should you pick?

On Android: Acorn isn’t available. Between Eyevo and MonPrice, Eyevo is 19–30% cheaper to enter. Try both free — they both let you scan before paying.

On iOS: all three are options. Acorn’s weekly is the most expensive entry point of the three, but it has the deepest review history. If weekly billing suits how you collect — a burst of scanning, then cancel — it’s a reasonable fit.

If you collect in Europe: check whether the app shows Cardmarket (EUR) prices and not just TCGPlayer (USD). The two markets routinely differ 20–40% on the same card, and a US-only price is close to useless for trading on a European marketplace. This is the single question I’d ask of any scanner app before paying for it.

If you own graded cards: check whether the app reads PSA/BGS/CGC slabs and shows eBay sold prices per grade. Raw-card pricing tells you almost nothing about what a slab is worth.

How to check any of this yourself

  1. Open the app’s App Store or Play listing.
  2. Scroll to In-App Purchases — Apple lists the top items with prices, Play shows a price range.
  3. Install and scan the same 10 cards in each app, including one reverse holo.
  4. Check whether each price shown names its source.

That’s a 15-minute test that beats any comparison article, including this one.
